CMRIT offers a full-time and part-time Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in four different specializations such as Engineering, Business Administration, Computer Applications and Sciences.

Admissions to the doctoral programs are done through an Entrance test called ULRAT (University Level Research Aptitude Test) which is conducted by the Visvesvaraya Technological University followed by an Interview round. The merit list of the doctoral courses is based on the merit of the candidates in ULRAT as well as on the performance in the interview round.

Part I: Coursework
Part II: Comprehensive Vice Voce
Part III: Synopsis Submission followed by Thesis Submission and successful defense.

The candidate is free to apply for a change in the Research topic / Coursework for the consideration of the Doctoral Committee before the completion of Part-I. But, the candidate is not permitted to change the Research topic after the completion of Part-I.
