Admission process was straightforward and easy. Consisted of an MCQ CBT and WAT/PI. Compared to exams like IPMAT level was much easier, can be cleared with little to no effort. Admission is through the SET examination. Admission for NRIs and foreign nationals is much much easier
Curriculum is fairly well designed, keeping in mind the various opportunities that an economics graduate has. The new 2024 batch has specialisations like AI and finance to further aid students in pursuing their careers with a strong backing in economic sciences. There can be improvements in terms of letting students actually pick the majority of the courses they want instead of making them compulsory. Exams are held twice a semester, and can be aced with a regular study habit.
Internships have to be arranged by the students, college has little to no hand in the internship process. Students utilise platforms like internshala and linkedin to attain these internships, the roles are mostly finance, consulting and marketing.
Considering Bsc. Economics is an academic and not a professional degree, the placement cell of our college is fairly decent. Most people don't sit for the placements as they want to pursue masters in economics or an MBA. We have compulsory internships after the 1st and 2nd year which improve employability and work experience. Mostly finance, public think tanks, consulting and marketing/market research companies come for placements. Packeges on average range from 4 lacs to 12 lacs
Fee is little high, not everyone who wants to pursue economics can pursue it over here, in terms of value for money Delhi University is better. Employment opportunities are only slightly better in SSE
Campus is small, just a building, but suffices. Fests and all are there but not that grand, they are just fine. library is well stocked and has everything one might need. Sports teams are fairly active and frequent tournaments, etc. the student clubs and student council are fairly active and do a lot of things.
Faculty to student ratio is good, most professors are approachable and friendly. Most are fairly qualified and decent teachers and will answer doubts. Quiet a few hold a doctorate, if not a master's degree and are qualified to teach. If you have genuine doubts then they have no problems in interacting with you and helping you. They also help a lot in placements and other areas.
Interview questions were purely based on the CV submitted, and the educational background (stream in 11th 12th) as well as some general knowledge. The interview cab be cracked easily, if one is comfortable with their basics of their stream. The criteria is very relaxed, the college even admits students who are not of economics/commerce background in 11th 12th. Little to no preperation is needed.
The curriculum is really good at xavier's. The faculties provide examples of real life applications to most of the theory they teach. But the curriculum needs more projects and hands on experiments in several aspects. Two semester exams in a year is conducted and the difficulty level range from moderate to difficult.
The course curriculum at St. Xavier’s College is quite relevant and comprehensive. It includes core subjects, electives, and practical components, offering a well-rounded education in Statistics and Mathematics. The integration of practical work and theoretical knowledge was a key factor in choosing this course, as it promises a strong foundation for both real-world applications and advanced studies. **Real-World Preparation**: The curriculum effectively prepares students for real-world challenges and further academic pursuits by aligning with industry standards and research trends. **Areas for Improvement**: To enhance the curriculum, consider incorporating more contemporary topics and hands-on learning opportunities. Improving interactive teaching methods could also benefit student engagement and understanding.
